Crude Oil Climbs Amid Intensifying Middle East Conflict and Supply Fears

Source oil.com

Global oil prices surged on Monday as escalating military tensions in the Middle East heightened concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies. The spike follows an expansion of Israel’s military offensive into Lebanon and fresh exchanges of strikes between the United States and Iran.

Benchmark Brent crude and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) both rose by more than 2 percent in early trading. Prices continued to climb as geopolitical risks deepened, with Brent nearing the $95–$97 per barrel range in some sessions.

The rally in oil markets comes after Israel ordered additional troop movements into Lebanon as part of its ongoing campaign against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. The escalation has dampened hopes for a near-term ceasefire and raised fears of a broader regional conflict.

At the same time, tensions between Washington and Tehran intensified after both sides conducted retaliatory strikes over the weekend. The United States said it targeted Iranian radar and drone control facilities in response to what it described as aggressive actions, while Iran claimed responsibility for counterattacks on U.S. assets in the region.

Markets reacted sharply to the developments, particularly amid growing concerns over the security of key global oil transit routes. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes, has once again come under threat. Analysts warn that any disruption in this corridor could trigger a sharper spike in prices and impact global inflation.

Investor sentiment has also been shaken by the collapse of diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran. Tehran has reportedly suspended talks, further reducing the likelihood of a negotiated de-escalation.

Despite the recent gains, some analysts caution that underlying demand concerns—particularly from major economies like China and Europe—could limit the extent of price increases unless supply disruptions become severe. However, for now, geopolitical instability remains the dominant force driving oil markets.

The situation in the Middle East continues to evolve rapidly, with traders closely monitoring military developments and diplomatic signals that could influence the next direction of global energy prices.
