Delhi High Court Declines Immediate Hearing on Plea Over Protest Concerns
The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant an urgent hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought preventive measures against a proposed protest by the group referred to as the “Cockroach Janta Party.”
The petitioner had approached the court requesting immediate intervention, citing concerns over potential public disruption and law-and-order issues arising from the planned demonstration in the national capital. The plea urged authorities to take precautionary steps in advance to avoid any untoward incidents.
However, the bench declined to list the matter for urgent hearing, indicating that the case did not warrant immediate judicial intervention at this stage. The court suggested that the matter could be taken up in due course as per the normal listing procedure.
Legal experts note that courts typically reserve urgent hearings for cases involving imminent threats to life, liberty, or significant public interest emergencies. In this instance, the bench appeared unconvinced that the situation met that threshold.
Meanwhile, no official response has yet been issued by the organizers of the protest regarding the concerns raised in the PIL. Authorities are expected to monitor the situation and take necessary steps to maintain public order if required
The matter is likely to be heard at a later date.
