New Delhi: In a significant development amid ongoing demonstrations, the Delhi Police on Thursday stated that there are no plans to carry out a crackdown on the protest organized by the Campaign for Justice and Peace (CJP) at Jantar Mantar tonight. The assurance comes after growing concerns among protesters about possible police action following heightened tensions earlier in the day.
The protest, which has drawn activists, students, and civil society members, is centered around demands for justice, accountability, and protection of democratic rights. Demonstrators have been gathering at Jantar Mantar, a designated site for public protests in the national capital, raising slogans and holding placards to voice their concerns.
Earlier reports had suggested the possibility of police intervention, leading to apprehension among protestors. However, senior police officials clarified that the situation remains under control and that no immediate action is being planned, provided the protest remains peaceful and within legal boundaries.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. As of now, there is no plan to disperse the protestors tonight,” a Delhi Police official said, emphasizing that maintaining law and order remains the top priority.
The assurance has brought temporary relief to demonstrators, many of whom had expressed fears of a late-night eviction. Protest organizers have reiterated their commitment to peaceful demonstration and urged participants to maintain discipline.
Security personnel continue to be deployed in and around the area as a precautionary measure. Authorities have also advised commuters to expect minor disruptions near Jantar Mantar due to the ongoing gathering.
The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected depending on the course of the protest and administrative decisions in the coming hours.
