Mumbai, August 23, 2026 — Actor and model Rohullah Mehdi, who appeared alongside Shahid Kapoor in the 2025 film Deva, has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking case in Mumbai, officials said on Sunday. The arrest was made by the Kashimira Police Crime Branch following a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs about a narcotics network operating through social media platforms.
According to police sources, Mehdi was apprehended along with an associate after authorities seized approximately 28 grams of MD (Mephedrone), a banned substance, with an estimated market value of ₹5.60 lakh. The arrest comes after investigators set up a trap using a decoy customer to intercept the alleged drug supply chain.
Officials revealed that the accused were allegedly part of a wider network that used messaging applications and social media platforms to facilitate drug transactions in the Mira Road and Dahisar areas of Mumbai. The police intercepted one suspect during a delivery attempt, which led to further questioning and eventually to Mehdi’s arrest.
Rohullah Mehdi, originally from Jammu and Kashmir, had been working in the entertainment industry and gained recognition for his role in Deva, an action thriller starring Shahid Kapoor. The film, released in 2025, featured Kapoor as a police officer and marked one of the notable projects in Mehdi’s acting career.
Following his arrest, Mehdi was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for further interrogation. Authorities are now investigating the extent of the alleged drug network and are trying to identify other individuals who may be involved, including any possible links to the film industry.
Police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests could follow as the probe deepens. The case has drawn significant attention due to Mehdi’s association with the film industry, though officials emphasized that all allegations are subject to judicial scrutiny.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement agencies are focusing on tracing the supply chain, identifying buyers, and uncovering the full scope of the network that reportedly operated through digital platforms.
