Riyadh/ Sanaa, August 20, 2026 — Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a fresh round of drone attacks targeting key infrastructure in southern Saudi Arabia, including Najran airport and facilities owned by state oil giant Aramco, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions.
According to statements released by the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the Houthis carried out two coordinated drone operations. The first reportedly targeted what was described as a “sensitive” site at Najran airport, while the second struck an Aramco oil facility in the same region.
The Najran region, located near the Saudi-Yemen border, has frequently been a flashpoint in the ongoing conflict between the Iran-aligned Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
