In a significant breakthrough for Indian investigative agencies, a key आरोपी (accused) in a ₹2,672-crore bank fraud case has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to officials, the आरोपी had been evading arrest and residing in the UAE for a considerable period. After sustained diplomatic efforts and legal coordination between Indian authorities and UAE counterparts, the extradition was successfully executed. The आरोपी was brought to India under tight security and formally arrested upon arrival.
The case involves an alleged large-scale banking fraud in which multiple financial institutions were reportedly cheated through fraudulent transactions, forged documents, and shell companies. The fraud, estimated at ₹2,672 crore, is considered one of the major economic offenses currently under investigation.
CBI sources stated that the arrest marks a crucial step in uncovering the broader conspiracy behind the scam. The agency is expected to interrogate the आरोपी to identify other individuals involved and trace the flow of illicit funds, including possible overseas assets.
Officials also highlighted that this extradition underscores growing international cooperation in tackling financial crimes and bringing fugitives to justice. The CBI has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing economic offenders who attempt to escape Indian law by fleeing abroad.
Further investigation in the case is ongoing, and more arrests or revelations may follow as the probe deepens.
