NEW DELHI — In a poignant moment that has captivated cricket fans nationwide, teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could not hide his emotions after officially receiving his senior India jersey.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a heartwarming video on Tuesday capturing the exact moment the 15-year-old was presented with the iconic blue kit, bearing his new jersey number ’03’. In the video, the young prodigy from Bihar showed his deep-rooted roots by touching the feet of Team India’s throwdown specialist, Raghu, who delivered the package, before staring at the shirt in disbelief.

“Words cannot explain it,” an emotional Sooryavanshi said. “The reason I picked up the bat from day one and went to the ground for practice—that dream is fulfilled now. The biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words.”

“It felt like a dream when I saw that T-shirt; I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes things happen that you never imagined could happen. When it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt.”

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi A Historic Call-Up

At just 15 years and 71 days old, Sooryavanshi earned a historic call-up to the Indian senior T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games 2026.

By doing so, he shattered a 36-year-old national record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut in 1989 at 16 years and 205 days old. If Sooryavanshi takes the field during the opening T20I in Belfast on June 26, he will officially become the youngest male cricketer ever to debut for India in international cricket.

A Meteoric Rise to the Top

Sooryavanshi’s national call-up comes on the back of an absolutely jaw-dropping run across domestic and franchise cricket over the past year:

IPL 2026 Dominance: Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, the explosive left-hander clinched the Orange Cap, amassing 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30, including a record-shattering 72 sixes.

U-19 World Cup Heroics: Earlier this year, he hammered a historic 175 off just 80 balls against England in the final, the highest-ever individual score in a U-19 World Cup final.

Blistering India A Form: Just two days ago on June 21, he warmed up for his international debut by smashing 94 runs off 29 balls against Sri Lanka A in the Tri-Nation series final, recording the fastest half-century in List A history off just 11 deliveries.

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar recently acknowledged that the teenager’s blistering form essentially forced the selectors’ hands, calling him an absolute “game-changer.”

With India’s white-ball tour kicking off in Belfast this Friday, the entire cricket world will be watching as a kid who was just handed his jersey prepares to step onto the grandest stage of them all.
