Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has issued a health advisory following a rise in H1N1 (swine flu) cases in parts of the state, while reassuring citizens that there is no cause for panic. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that the situation is being closely monitored and that adequate measures are in place to prevent the spread of the infection.
According to officials from the state health department, a marginal increase in H1N1 cases has been observed over the past few weeks, particularly in urban areas such as Bengaluru. However, the minister emphasized that the numbers are not alarming and remain within manageable limits.
“The government is fully prepared to handle the situation. Hospitals are equipped, and medical staff have been instructed to stay vigilant. People should remain cautious but there is absolutely no need to panic,” the minister said during a press briefing.
Health authorities have advised the public to follow basic preventive measures, including maintaining personal hygiene, wearing masks in crowded places, and seeking medical attention if symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches appear. Special focus is being placed on vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
The state government has also directed hospitals, both public and private, to ensure availability of antiviral medications and isolation wards if required. Surveillance has been intensified, and rapid response teams have been deployed to monitor and contain any potential outbreaks.
Experts note that H1N1 is a seasonal viral infection that tends to spike during certain weather conditions, particularly during monsoon and winter months. They stress that early detection and timely treatment significantly reduce the risk of complications.
Meanwhile, the health department is running awareness campaigns to educate the public about symptoms and prevention strategies. Citizens have been urged not to spread misinformation or panic through social media.
Officials reiterated that while vigilance is necessary, the situation remains under control and there is no indication of a widespread outbreak at this stage.
The government continues to monitor the situation closely and has assured that further action will be taken if required to safeguard public health.
