Maharashtra Braces for Prolonged Downpour as State Remains on High Alert

Mumbai, July 6: Maharashtra is set to witness continued heavy rainfall until July 8, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirming that the state administration remains on high alert to tackle any potential emergencies arising from the ongoing monsoon.

According to official updates, several districts across the state, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and parts of the Konkan region, have already experienced intense rainfall over the past few days. Weather authorities have warned that the situation may persist, increasing the risk of waterlogging, flooding, and disruption to daily life.

Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that all disaster management agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local municipal bodies, have been placed on standby. He emphasized that precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of residents, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

“Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Citizens are advised to stay indoors unless necessary and follow official advisories,” Fadnavis said during a media briefing.

In Mumbai, heavy showers have already caused traffic congestion and delays in suburban train services. Civic authorities have deployed additional personnel to manage waterlogging hotspots and ensure smooth drainage operations. Schools in some districts may remain closed if conditions worsen.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts indicating very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, urging fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions along the coast.

Meanwhile, emergency helplines have been activated across districts, and relief teams are prepared for quick response in case of landslides or flooding incidents, particularly in hilly regions.

Residents are being urged to remain vigilant, avoid flooded areas, and keep track of official updates as the monsoon activity intensifies over the next few days.
