The Government of India has announced a revision in passport fees, with the updated rates set to come into effect from July 1. The move is part of a broader effort to streamline administrative costs and improve passport-related services across the country.
According to official sources, the revised fee structure will apply to both fresh passport applications and renewals. While the government has not significantly altered the application process, applicants will now be required to pay higher charges depending on the type of service they opt for, such as normal or tatkal processing.
Under the new structure, the fee for a standard 36-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity has been increased. Similarly, charges for a 60-page passport and tatkal services have also been revised upward. However, concessional fees for minors and senior citizens are expected to remain either unchanged or minimally affected.
Officials stated that the revision is necessary to keep up with rising operational costs and to enhance infrastructure, including faster processing systems and improved service delivery at Passport Seva Kendras.
The Ministry of External Affairs has advised applicants planning to submit their passport applications to check the updated fee details on the official portal before proceeding. Citizens who complete their applications before June 30 will still be charged according to the existing rates.
The hike has drawn mixed reactions from the public, with some expressing concern over increased expenses, while others acknowledge the need for better services and quicker turnaround times.
With international travel steadily increasing, authorities believe that the updated fee structure will help maintain efficiency and meet the growing demand for passport services in the country.
