NEW DELHI — In a harrowing incident stemming from a domestic disagreement, a 31-year-old software engineer employed with Adobe was allegedly beaten to death by his wife’s family inside his residence in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar.
The victim, identified as Vinay Gupta, succumbed to fatal injuries on Friday after his in-laws stormed his home following an argument between Gupta and his wife, Rekha. Recounting the horrific assault, Gupta’s grieving mother, Renu, stated that her son was mercilessly assaulted right before her eyes while family members attempted in vain to shield him.
A Minor Argument Escalates to Fatal Violence
According to family members, the dispute began on Friday morning over a routine domestic matter—administering medicine to one of the couple’s four-month-old twin children. Following a heated verbal exchange, Rekha allegedly left the house and returned roughly 10 minutes later accompanied by her brothers, father, and other relatives.
Gupta’s parents initially believed the visitors had arrived for an amicable discussion. “My husband said relatives had come to talk. I went to get water for them, but they refused it and immediately grabbed my son,” Renu recounted.
“Pre-Planned Conspiracy”
Gupta’s mother alleged that the assault was sudden, vicious, and pre-meditated.
“They grabbed my son by his hair and threw him down. He squeezed my son’s throat with all his might and slammed him onto the ground,” she said, adding that the attackers stomped on his chest repeatedly, causing fatal internal trauma. “A neighbor witnessed both brothers stomping on his chest, crushing his lungs. I tried to defend him with a stick, but they snatched it away and shoved me aside.”
The victim’s family further alleged that the home’s CCTV cameras were suspiciously switched off right before the confrontation took place, pointing to a planned conspiracy.
Four Detained as Police Launch Investigation
Following the assault, neighbors helped rush a critically injured Gupta to a nearby medical facility, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Delhi Police have detained four individuals, including Gupta’s wife and her brothers, in connection with the homicide. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103(1) (murder) and Section 3(5) (common intention). Forensic teams have inspected the crime scene, and further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events.
