A nationwide mock drill was conducted on Saturday ahead of the proposed NEET-UG re-examination, with authorities ramping up security measures to ensure a smooth and fair process. The exercise was carried out across multiple examination centres to assess preparedness and identify potential gaps in logistics and monitoring systems.
Officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA), along with local administrative and law enforcement bodies, supervised the drill. The initiative comes in response to recent concerns over exam integrity, including alleged paper leaks and irregularities that prompted calls for a re-test.
During the mock drill, strict protocols were implemented, including biometric verification of candidates, surveillance through CCTV cameras, and deployment of additional invigilators. Police personnel were stationed at sensitive centres to prevent any untoward incidents and to maintain order.
Authorities also tested communication systems and emergency response mechanisms to ensure quick action in case of disruptions. Special attention was given to the transportation and secure handling of question papers, a key area of concern in previous examinations.
According to officials, the mock drill will help streamline coordination between various agencies and enhance transparency in the examination process. Feedback from the exercise will be used to fine-tune arrangements before the re-exam is conducted.
Students and parents have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming the increased vigilance while others remain anxious about the uncertainty surrounding the re-examination schedule. The government has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to uphold the credibility of one of the country’s most important medical entrance exams.
Further announcements regarding the final date and guidelines for the NEET-UG re-exam are expected soon.
