MUMBAI — The Indian television and film industry is in deep shock following the sudden and tragic passing of 22-year-old actor Sanchita Ugale. Known for her roles in popular serials like Kumkum Bhagya, Wagle Ki Duniya, and the upcoming historical drama Chhaava, the young artist reportedly died by suicide on Sunday evening, June 14, 2026, at her residence in Nalasopara, Maharashtra.
The Incident and Ongoing Investigation
According to police officials from the Achole Police Station, the incident took place between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Sanchita was alone in her bedroom at her family home in the Sai Santoshi Building, Achole Village, Nalasopara East.
When family members found her bedroom door locked from the inside and received no response, they broke it open. Sanchita was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan. She was immediately rushed to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Hospital, where doctors tragically declared her dead on arrival.
Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Bagh confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the spot. Based on a complaint filed by her father, Machhindra Ugale, the police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). While her father has stated he does not suspect any foul play, authorities are examining all possible angles to understand the circumstances leading up to her death.
Final Social Media Post and Struggle with Depression
The news has left fans and colleagues heartbroken, especially given Sanchita’s active presence on social media just hours before her death. Her final Instagram post—a reel of her happily singing and dancing along to the classic song Dafli Wale—was flooded with comments from fans and fellow actors expressing utter disbelief.
Behind her cheerful public persona, however, Sanchita was reportedly fighting a silent battle. In a poignant revelation following the tragedy, her close friend and co-star Megha Sharma shared that Sanchita had been undergoing treatment for depression since January.
“I am in deep shock and out of words,” Sharma told media outlets while in tears. “She had some personal reasons and was undergoing treatment. But she was a happy-go-lucky person. I met her just 10 days ago and took her for an audition. She was convinced that she could make it… She loved herself.”
Sharma added that while Sanchita had occasionally expressed dark thoughts in the past, her family and friends had consistently rallied around her to keep her motivated and positive.
A Rising Career Cut Short
Sanchita Ugale was widely considered a highly promising talent who was steadily building a versatile portfolio across television, OTT platforms, and mainstream cinema.
Television Success: She rose to prominence playing Diya Tandon in Zee TV’s long-running drama Kumkum Bhagya, a role she often credited as the definitive turning point in her career. She also played Ruchita Jaitley in Wagle Ki Duniya and secured a lead role as Sukoon in Dangal TV’s Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi.
Film & OTT Footprint: Beyond television, Sanchita had successfully transitioned into films. She recently portrayed the younger version of Tarabai in the highly anticipated Vicky Kaushal-starrer historical epic Chhaava. She also appeared alongside veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee in the investigative thriller Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout.
