Chennai, May 4, 2026:
In a dramatic political shift, actor-turned-politician Vijay has emerged as a formidable force in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), leading in over 100 seats. The early trends suggest that TVK is on course to become the single-largest party in the state, challenging decades of dominance by traditional Dravidian parties.
The biggest upset of the election came from the Kolathur constituency, where Chief Minister M. K. Stalin lost his long-held stronghold to TVK candidate V.S. Babu. Stalin, who had represented the seat since 2011 and won it with large margins in previous elections, was defeated by several thousand votes in what analysts are calling a historic turnaround.
The results indicate a significant shift in voter sentiment, with TVK capitalizing on youth support, grassroots mobilization, and a reform-focused campaign. The party’s strong performance has disrupted the traditional bipolar contest between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which have dominated Tamil Nadu politics for over five decades.
While DMK leaders have acknowledged a visible “youth wave” favoring Vijay, the party continues to trail in several key constituencies. Meanwhile, celebrations have erupted among TVK supporters across the state as the party inches closer to forming the Government.
If the current trends hold, Tamil Nadu could witness a new political era with Vijay poised to take on a leadership role, marking one of the most significant electoral upheavals in the state’s recent history.
