Ranchi, India — Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has urged a Jharkhand-based exam protester, currently on a hunger strike, to at least drink water in order to safeguard his health, even as the agitation over alleged irregularities in a recruitment examination continues to gain momentum.

The protester, who has been on an indefinite fast demanding a fair inquiry into the examination process, has reportedly refused both food and water for several days. Wangchuk, known for his advocacy on education and youth issues, expressed concern over the deteriorating health of the protester and emphasized that the fight for justice should not come at the cost of one’s life.

In a public message, Wangchuk appealed for a balanced approach, urging the protester to continue the demonstration peacefully while ensuring basic health precautions. “Your cause is important, but your life is more valuable. Please stay hydrated,” he said, calling on authorities to engage constructively with the protesters.

Meanwhile, the protest has intensified with five more individuals joining the hunger strike in solidarity. The group is demanding transparency in the examination process, alleging discrepancies in results and irregularities in evaluation. Protesters have also called for an independent probe and immediate corrective measures from the state government.

Local authorities have been monitoring the situation closely. Health officials have reportedly visited the protest site and advised the fasting individuals to seek medical attention. However, the protesters have remained firm on their demands, stating that they will continue the fast until concrete action is taken.

The issue has sparked wider attention, with student groups and civil society organizations extending their support. Political reactions have also begun to emerge, with opposition leaders criticizing the government for failing to address the concerns promptly.

As tensions rise, Wangchuk’s intervention has added a humanitarian dimension to the ongoing agitation, highlighting the need for dialogue and resolution without risking lives. The state government is yet to announce any formal decision regarding the demands raised by the protesters.
