New Delhi: The sixth day of the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed repeated disruptions, leading to the adjournment of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for the day. The uproar was triggered by the Opposition’s demand for a detailed discussion on alleged examination paper leaks and concerns surrounding the proposed legislation addressing the issue.
From the outset, proceedings in both Houses were marked by loud protests, slogan-shouting, and members trooping into the well. Opposition leaders insisted on an immediate and comprehensive debate on the alleged irregularities in recruitment and examination processes across the country. They accused the government of failing to safeguard the integrity of competitive exams, which they said has severely impacted the youth.
In the Lok Sabha, as soon as the House convened, Opposition members raised placards and demanded that the Paper Leak Bill be taken up for discussion under rules that allow extensive debate and voting. The Speaker attempted to restore order, urging members to return to their seats and allow Question Hour to proceed. However, the protests intensified, forcing multiple adjournments before the House was finally called off for the day.
A similar scene unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, where the Chair faced continuous disruptions. Opposition MPs called for accountability and sought a statement from the government on recent incidents of exam paper leaks. They argued that the issue was not isolated but systemic, requiring urgent legislative and administrative intervention.
The government, on its part, maintained that it is prepared to discuss the matter but accused the Opposition of deliberately stalling proceedings. Parliamentary Affairs Minister stated that the government is open to debate under appropriate rules but emphasized the need for orderly conduct in the House. He urged members to allow legislative business to continue, highlighting that several important bills are pending.
Despite these assurances, the deadlock persisted throughout the day. Repeated attempts by the presiding officers in both Houses to negotiate a resolution failed to yield results. As disruptions continued unabated, both Houses were adjourned without transacting any substantial business.
The Paper Leak Bill, which aims to introduce stricter penalties and systemic reforms to curb examination malpractices, remains at the center of the political standoff. While the government views it as a critical step toward restoring credibility in the examination system, the Opposition has demanded greater transparency and wider consultation before its passage.
The ongoing impasse has raised concerns about the productivity of the Monsoon Session, with several sittings already affected by disruptions. Political observers note that unless consensus is reached soon, key legislative agendas may face further delays.
As the session progresses, all eyes will be on whether the government and the Opposition can find common ground to ensure meaningful discussions and legislative progress, particularly on issues that directly impact millions of students and job aspirants across the country.
